Six questions that might change the course of your success

When it comes to powerful questions to ask yourself Marshall Goldsmith is at the top of his game. A combination of simplicity and depth that allows you to think deeply and proactively to discover more of yourself daily. I'm learning from that process daily.

In connection to his recent book Triggers I recently I came across a challenge. In fact a challenge I'd like to suggest anybody who reads this blog takes up. Six question daily challenge.

  1. Did I do my best to set clear goals?
  2. Did I do my best to make progress towards goal achievement?
  3. Did I do my best to find meaning?
  4. Did I do my best to be happy?
  5. Did I do my best to build positive relationships?
  6. Did I do my best to be fully engaged?

At first glance they may not seem like much but you need to take a closer look. The process of asking yourself the same questions daily can feel arduous or perhaps overdone.

The primary focus of these questions is to get you to think intentionally and proactively about those things that were in your power to control that day. The questions work as both as a way to empower and to awaken you to the reality of your potential daily to achieve in some ways your own personal enlightenment.

You can expand and widen these questions for example

  • Did I do my best to show love to my wife
  • Did I do my best to add and create value to my customers

The possibilities are endless.

If there is one thing I've learnt through studying great people its success leaves clue. If a man as successful as Marshall Goldsmith pays an assistant to call him everyday to ask him these questions we might want to pay attention. As they say repetition is the master teacher.

Here is the challenge.  Print out the initial six questions on your wall and at the end of each day ask yourself the questions and journal two things.

  • What you did if yes
  • What you might do differently if No

The outcome for those who follow through is supposed to be trans formative and I for one am going to at least attempt it and I'd encourage you all to do the same.
